What Does Success Mean to You?

Success means something different to everyone. Based on your personal definition, you may have already attained a level of success. The word gets its origin from the Latin word successus, which means: the achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted.

That is the official definition. Now it’s time to think about your personal definition of success.  What does success look like?  What do you have to achieve in order to consider yourself successful? Often times people are too hard on themselves and don’t acknowledge their successful, some only recognize success in material possessions.  The worst is when people measure their success to others’ success.

Let’s explore what success isn’t then we can begin to embrace and design success. Success is not a fantasy or things that you always wanted to do or a dream. Success is most definitely not an accident.

Success is something that we feel deeply inside and only you will know when you have achieved it; can be tangible at times? Yes, of course.  Anything you plan to be, have or do, once realized, is a success. Answer these questions as a simple way to find your path to success.

·         What do you want to achieve?

·         When do you want to achieve it by?

·         How do you plan to achieve it?

This is my success formula that I always use produce results, try it for yourself.

Faith/Belief - Goal - Plan - Massive Action - Success

This is required before achieving success; you first have to have the belief or faith that you can attain what you want, before you go after it.

1.       Set you goal; make sure it is specific and measurable.

2.       Give yourself a deadline. Write down the date you plan to reach it.

3.       Careful and detailed planning, without a plan you will plan to fail. Be sure to take time to readjust your plan.

4.       Write your goals down. This is a very important step. Most people keep thoughts in their heads but when you write it down it gains power. It’s the first step in making it real.

5.       Take action. Setting a goal without taking action is just wishful thinking.  Massive and consistent action will bring your goal to reality.  Even if it’s a small action like setting up an appointment or buying something you need to achieve the goal, you should always take action towards your goal as soon as you set it!

Anna Quindlen said it best “It is possible to fail in many ways… while to succeed is possible only in one way.”

Success is ignited by burning desire, powered by passion, driven by purpose, supported by persistence & perseverance, fortified by patience; you hold the key to your success!

Allow me to share with you this poem I came across in 1990 that inspired me.

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.
