The Role of Enzymes in Our Nutrition

Here we are again, how many of you are still with me? Did you take the time to assess your life to see what is in your way to wellness and wellbeing? As promised this week we are going to look at the role of enzymes and how crucial they are in our journey to wellbeing, wellness and weight loss. Our bodies are made of enzymes and water. Enzymes are also present in all living cells and help us to break down food material into smaller compounds. They are found throughout the digestive tract and are essential to the digestive process.

Adding enzymes to our diet can massively increase our health. Enzyme dense foods are easy on the digestive system and provide us with greater assimilation and elimination thus helping to strengthen our immune system; contributing to physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Enzymes are the driving force in the body, so why is our Standard American Diet (SAD) void of this life giving substance?  Enzymes are absolutely necessary to life and are abundant in raw living foods like fruits, green leafy vegetables and sprouts.  

When the body is deficient in enzymes it causes it to crave food. Cooking food at a temperature over 105 degrees destroys the enzymes, as well as its vitamins and mineral content. Cooked foods alter our pH.  The body goes to an acidic state which causes cell degeneration, stiffness and cell mutation. The body is meant to be alkaline. It was not until 1908 that the first heart attack was mentioned in the Journal of American Medical Association because our intake of food containing fiber and plant bases had decreased a significant level. Food was indeed our nutrition. Good digestion is the foundation to health and poor digestion causes us to be toxic, deficient and overweight. I am going to share with you how I increase my enzymes and fiber intake with blended smoothies. Try this formula for one week and watch your energy increase and the number on the scale go down.

Pineapple Surprise


  • 1 whole pineapple
  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • 1 ½ cup of water


  • wash spinach thoroughly
  • peel pineapple and cut into chunks
  • place all ingredients in a blender
  • cover and process until smooth

Garden Salad with Avocado


 1 bag of spring mix

¼ handful of dill

40 leaves of mint

20 leaves of basil

½ handful parsley

1 scallion

4 green olives

1 avocado diced

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 sheet of nory cut in one inch by 1/8

Preparation: wash and place all ingredients in a mixing bowl mix well and serve with your choice of dressing

Garden Dressing


1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon sour orange juice

½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon celtic sea salt

1 teaspoon fresh parsley

1 teaspoon fresh thyme

Seeds from a tomato and cucumber

Preparation: Place all ingredients in the blender, blend well. Serve with garden salad with sunflower sprouts.
